Our mission is to promote and nurture a welcoming atmosphere among our members by organizing neighborhood committees and events dedicated to natural preservation, historical integrity, community building, and to address issues of common concern to residents.
Historic Preservation
After much debate, the City of New York Landmarks Preservation Commission designated Sunnyside Gardens as a Historic District on June 26th, 2007. Since this designation has been made, some homeowners (and prospective homeowners) have expressed confusion about what sort of changes are permitted to their property and what process they must follow to make those changes. Recently the commission has shed some light on this subject with the publication of this helpful pamphlet: Doing Work in Sunnyside Gardens: A Homeowner’s Guide to the Landmarks Preservation Commission Rules.
